I've seen them mounted on a 12", spreads the sidewall into a odd shape. I'm guessing tread would wear unevenly.

I will agree... the PO has 36"x12.5" swampers mounted on 12" wide wheels. First off they look funny!!!! Looks like a baloon tire with just a rib of tread down the center. While the wear pattern would be better than a 12.5" wide tire on a 8" wheel... they wont hold well when aired down. Go with a 9-10" wide wheel. My .02

yeah that's what I thought I was just trying to get away without getting new rims but that's not going to happen, right now I'm not sure if I'll even have new tires%)

As a rule, your rim width should be around 2" less than tire width, although I've never had any trouble running 12" tires on 8" wheels. It actually helps keep the bead when you air down. Same width tire and wheel would look really strange, and would roll the bead very easily.

I don't like my 33/12.5's on my 10" rims at all . It just doesn't look right. Will go back to 8's someday.
Not much of a concern anymore , since the trail rig came along.
