Been watching my 76 drip rear diff oil on my painted floor for the last few week.(I know I need a hobby!) I wiped it clean numerous times but can't find a leak. I pulled the fill plug and almost one quart emptied out into a bucket before it stopped. Is that normal and what should I run in it.

It was over filled.
It can only leak from the axle seals (near the wheel), the carrier gasket/studs, or the pinion gear seal unless the carrier or housing is cracked.
I run synthetic 70/90.
You would only run the heavier 140 if you tow heavy loads often. Which "most" of us do not do very often in our eb's.

I guess you could jack it up on one side really far then you "might" be able to get an extra quart.
Or.....maybe it was filled on a work stand as opposed to being installed on the vehicle.....

Mine was leaking through the studs, I put some copper washers behind the nuts, and no more fluid on the floor.

i'm curious how you could get it a quart over full

Fill it through the vent hole at the top. I've had to do this with third members that didn't have the fill plug. Back in '66 the plug was on the housing and if you swap a '66 third member into a later housing, neither of them have the fill plug.
