No man that is engineering. That's the stuff that built the pyramids. Unless you believe the aliens did it.

Me and my uncle once used a hand winch off a trailer tongue to drop a motor/trans into an S10.

I was sitting on the trailer tongue, about 30 ft out in the yard, 2 or 3 straps tied together away from the action, mostly holding the trailer down with my weight, but really kind of half floating in midair where the weight was trying to flip the trailer over, working the winch to click it down. He had it rigged to a big pulley hanging from the top of his lean to shed and trying to guide it into the truck.

I'd give anything to have video of the stuff that man rigged up. It was never safe, but always seemed to work. How him, or me nearby, never got killed or seriously hurt, I do not know.

So no, using a real, electric, winch to pick stuff up in my world is, well, sophisticated.

A couple friends of mine and I loaded a 79 bronco onto a car trailer with a hand winch, highlift jack, and a few old car rims. The bronco had 2 flat tires and was missing an axle. I have been accused of redneck engineering before but I always say "how the hell would you have done it?"

Winches change everything. If Sisyphus had access to a winch he would have gotten that boulder to the top of the hill and got on with his retirement.

When you are talking red Neck there is only one level, red neck. You cannot be too red neck, it does not exist.

Would this fall into the Redneck category?

Chain hoist on an A-frame with a piece of plywood to protect the grill and a couple tall homemade jack stands to protect the Redneck.

Your post reminded me that I bought an electric hoist at auction a few years ago and never did anything with it. I have various hoists on overhead I-beams that run the length of each of my shop bays...but they are chain hoists except for one 1/2-ton electric.

So I go check out the big pile o' hoist junk that I had won. Hoolee crap..its a CM 635 series, 2-ton hoist on powered trolley. 15' lift range. I look on their web site...sez they cost about 7 grand.

I think I paid 100 bucks for it at the auction. Time to put that bad boy up on a beam...
