I'm just running full doors and a family cage. No sides to the bikini top.
Are there any tips or techniques on how to minimize the exhaust inhalation? :-X
I almost never drove my '90 with the back window open because of the same problem.
I haven't yet driven with the wing windows open. Will that help blow the exhaust out the back where it belongs?
I don't have a huge problem with vintage exhaust fumes, but my passengers might...

The concensus is that running your exhaust out the side rear corner is the most effective method to reduce in cab fumes. One of the worst things you can do is run the exhaust straight out the back.

I just bought two catalytic converters. I'll let you know if they help much.

X2, on that. I have mine running out the side behind the rear tires. I am also running a bikini top with no problems

X3 that, and make sure the exhaust exits out past the body, not under it.

I run mine out the side in front of the rear tires with door inserts and Bikini top with no issues. I also had no issues with full doors and full soft top closed up and no fumes with the same out the side exhaust in front of the rear tires. Straight out the rear is just a bad place.

Out of curiosity, would the noise difference be noticeably louder from exiting in the front of the tires instead of the rear?

I have dual 2" exhaust with crossover and Dynomax turbo mufflers which are pretty quiet in-themselves. Since the sound is thrown out the tube and not in my direction and I am behind the exhaust I don't notice it as any kind of loud. Wind noise from the open top is so much louder. Now the cars along side of me may consider the noise louder since its directed at them. I have had some small cars next to me that don't like the exhaust output directed right at them since they are much lower the exhaust can be directed into the open windows. This usually isn't much of an issue out here in SoCal since everyone out here has the windows up and the air conditioner on year round. I have had very little issue with smashing my exhaust since I moved it in front of the rear tires. Prior to that it was always in the wrong place getting smashed when I dropped off the rocks and ledges.
