Dose anyone know the torque specs for the rear u-joint?
I'm one my second one in about six months and I think I'm cranking down on'em to much.

Thanks

All greased up when installed. It's the caps that the U-bolts go over that attach to the yoke on the third member.
I'm 95% sure I crushed them when I put them on.

Anyhow I found the specs. Here they are for anyone thats interested.

Torque Specification Chart:

1/2" Fine Thread Bolts-------------------------85-90

1/2" Rear U-Bolts--------------------------------80-85

9/16" Fine Thread Bolts------------------------115

Spring Retainer - Upper Spring Seat-------13-19

Radius Arm-----------------------------------------180-220

Lower Spring Retainer- Radius Arm---------30-70

Pitman Arm - Steering Gear Nut------------170-228

I hope you don't torque them to 80-85 anything. You'll be replacing more than a u-joint.
According to my Clymer super manual:
Drive shaft to front/rear axle u-bolts 8-15 ft.-lbs.
Drive shaft to transfer case bolts 20-28 ft.-lbs.

When I got a new driveshaft, the shop told me to use about 9 lbs. Had to guestimate since I can't get my torque wrench on the nuts.

Your right about that, I must have copied and clipped the wrong section :-[
85 lbs would most defenitly crush my caps :( I'll go with between 8 & 15

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I too have went through two rear joints in past couple of outings and figured I was tighting them down too much because just the caps exploded. Now I know for sure.

I need the U joints from the t-case side of the drive shaft. Did you pick them up at the local auto parts houses (if so, what manufacturer? Dana Spicer?) or the bronco houses?
