Tranny Inspection

I have a transmission that was given to me by a family friend that just had no use for it. It is the three speed RAT or RAN (cant remember which but not much difference save gearing) that came stock in our broncos. I pulled off the top plate, lube looks good, all the gears look good, it shifts into place just fine (it came with the hurst floor shifter attached) What I really want to know is, how can I inspect this thing to make sure it is "good to go" before I put it in the truck? Im not much of a tranny guy, well, Im just not a tranny guy so any tips will be appreciated.

take it to a local tranny shop and get the most experienced guy to peek at the gears and "feel" it for excess wear

worth the 20 spot you give him regardless of his diagnosis
