Transfer case shifter (T- Style) questions

Owned the truck little over a month and now the major things are fixed THANKS to this site and the people on here.

Issue Im looking at is the transfer case shifter (single stick). It works but is a real pain to get it to move. Thinking it was replaced with an aftermarket. It seems to be the stock handle but there is no button (assuming the button does something?) took the handle off and the shifter itself is solid (was thinking it would be hollow).

This is all a grey area right now. After looking at it Im thinking the stock shifter had some type of dentent that a rod and button actuated to allow the shifter to move. I cant find any parts break down of the stock stuff. I havent looked under the truck to see what shifts t-case. Going to be my next step.

72, 302, 3speed

Thanks

Original t shifter has a black button on the side. That button activates a rod that goes down through the center of the shaft. You say yours is solid so I would assume the PO changed either the transfer case or the shift handle.

The T-case is notorious for being difficult to shift.

If you rock the vehicle a little while shifing it becomes a lot easier.

For sure double check the linkages undernieth and tighten them up if needed, but most people just install a twin stick and shifting becomes MUCH easier.

If you're missing pieces, let me know. I replaced mine with twin sticks and have the original set-up (if I can find the pieces in the garage.
