Transmission input shaft scratched

Finally got around to pulling my ZF5 to replace the hydraulic slave/tob and scratched the surface of the pilot snout on my input shaft. It doesn't seem super deep but my nail catches it. Can I get away with sanding it smooth again and then installing a roller pilot bearing instead of a bronze pilot? From what I've read have to do a lot to replace the input shaft and I want to avoid that

I would reach for a fine pattern Swiss file first, dress it out (create flat spot) until the scratch is gone. Then polish with some fine emery cloth. And keep the bronze pilot. A needle bearing won't like the discontinuity. It's probably not as deep as you think.

Then move on to the next challenge. Which in my case is a list that extends out to the hazy horizon, lol...

Never had to deal with anything like this, but just curious... When you say dress it out/create a flat spot, would you feather the edge on both sides for a smooth transition? I'm guessing you would...

Never mind, that would be the emery cloth doing its job. Sorry. I didn't read closely enough.
