Is there any way possible to swap a NV4500 (or other tranny with 5-speed) with the 170 cu. in. Inline 6 engine? I love the low gear of the original 3 speed, but it drives me crazy for every day driving.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Swap Trans

Well I Was Reading All The Old Post Tonight ..i'm Not Sure On The 5 Speeds But We Put A Np435 In My Runnin Buddy 66 200-6cyl ..it Was An Easy Swap He Has A 2 Inch Body Lift Already ...took One Week End ..we Gave 75.00 Each For Our Trans And Then The Adaptors Cost About 350.00 For The Adaptors But After Reading On This Sight I Think You Can Come Up With Cheaper Ones...
But The 435 Has The Lowest 1st Gear But Not Overdrive
But It Sure Made A Better Bronco Out Of His ..

Unless youre running stock tires and 456 gears, the overdrive is going to be pretty much useless.

The NP435 has been done, you dont really change any gear ratios but you gain the extra grunt of the granny low. It will bolt up but youll end up moving the tcase back a couple inches or so.
