Truetrac vs Detroit

Been doing some reading, preparing to buy a diff for the rear end. I basically want to be able to go to OCBR and do mild trails. Would like to drive there, about 250 miles. I guess it comes down to whether or not i can live with the manners of the detroit? I know the truetrac will be well mannered on the street but will be able to handle mild trails. i will be running 33s with 2.5 suspension and 1 inch body and 4.88s. explorer efi and 4r70w. Other options?

I love my TrueTrac. It locks both tires up like a locker and drives great on the street. I ran trails all weekend long with no slipping in the rear from it with 36" tires.

I've got the TruTrac in both Broncos and are quite happy with the way they perform.

Just upgraded both axles with truetracs and ran lots of blue trails at Rausch Creek during the MEB Roundup. I went places in two wheel drive that I struggled through in 4 wheel during last years event. I'm sold!

Have a Detroit in the rear. I've heard it make the "pop" one time in 4 years, other wise I don't know it's there. I'm open in the the front, no problems at OCBR on the 1-3 trails, you'll have a great time!

The trouble with TrueTracs is when you get a wheel/tire up in the air they don't lock up.

If you are getting a wheel in front and a wheel in back off the ground at the same time you are not on a mild trail.

okie, i had a locker in z71, the noise doesn't bother me, was more worried about the low speed handling that has been discussed on here. i need to come this year to OCBR as a spectator so i can actually see the trails.

I've run a Detroit for nearly 10 years, it pops once in awhile, but it's really not a big deal. The truth of the matter, it just plain works. You install it and forget it's there! Yes there's a small learning curve but once you get used to how they can react your fine.

%)%)%) I have a locker in the rear and a true track in the front been running over 30 years and no problems. If you power around a hard turn it will let you now just drive safe and sane sorta. Good luck with your choice.:D:D:D Bill ;D%):D

I've run both. If the Bronco is going to be mostly on the street go with the truetrack. I have a detroit in my trail Bronco - rarely sees the street. Great on the trail! The detroit can be annoying in sharp turns on the pavement. Any acceleration in a turn and it locks.

I've run an old Detroit for 10 years and just took the bronco to Yellowstone pulling a trailer. Total trip around 3300 miles.

GRIZ/GRIZ I had a truetrac in front at one time, Good diff but it still not a locker. What ya got in the front?

Id still lock em both!!! A locked front on the hwy doesn't matter your in 2wd with hubs unlocked, very very lil to no driving on ice here. Yeap Id still lock em both!

If you are getting a wheel in front and a wheel in back off the ground at the same time you are not on a mild trail.
With a tire in the air a simple 'trim' with the brake pedal will lock it.

I drove a rear Detroit "soft locker" for almost 20 years and right at 125,000 miles. I somewhere between disliked to hated every pavement mile but loved it in the dirt. Next one is going to be an ARB.

If this is truly your plan I suggest not buying either one until after you attend. This event has a way of changing your plans.

THAT WOULD BE SOME EXCELLENT ADVISE!

After11 trips(8 OCBRs n 3 pre-runs) Its all about cruising the rocks!!! Nothing else matters! I'm still a 2-3 trail leader in a 5 truck!!!!<<<<That's funny right there!!!
