Understanding Bronco options better

I am currently looking at a bronco that only has one gas tank hole but the vin reads as a 302 v8 from factory(motor is gone). Did they make a bronco with a 302 and only one gas tank? The motor mounts seem to be for a 6 cylinder and the bronco is a very low model so a 6 cylinder seems more reasonable. I’m starting to worry if the vin/glove box door and frame don’t match.

Where can I look on the frame to verify the vin and where besides the glove box can I find a vin on the tub to also verify?

Let me know what you guys think. I’ve seen a very similar bronco (same year and 302) with two gas tanks.

Dual tanks were optional but very common.

There is a vin on the top of the frame just in front of the passenger floor board.

Upload some photos and folks can help you better,

My '72 came from the factory with a 302 and only one gas tank.

Check the drivers side door jamb for a tag that has the VIN. If you have that tag, the VIN should match the glove box VIN, which should also match the VIN on the frame. The VIN on the frame can difficult to see/find if it is covered under 40+ years of grime/gunk. The VIN on the frame is the one that counts, it should be the one used to title the vehicle.

Auxiliary tank was available as an option as of 5/66'. Not sure on the 77' if they ever came with just a single tank, anyone know?

Yes 77 came with a single tank. It has the front gas door in place, but is secured shut.
This is on a 77 that I have worked on over the years. Originally purchased in Idaho and has been in the Family since day one. Now on it's 3rd generation of Drivers. :)

That's interesting, how is is secured shut? Factory secured shut or your family prior secured? Cool that it's been in the family all this time! :)

77's with single tanks came with a factory secured dummy door for the front fuel door. My 77 is like that

I’m curious how the aux door was secured.

Mine doesn’t appear to have ever been secured that I can see.

I understand it was bolted shut, but never looked into it.

My first '71 was a single tank V8. Welded on trailer hitch under that tank as well. College was 120 miles away. I always stopped for gas halfway. I wanted duel tanks so bad I made sure to get them on the second one. Once I put the 23 gallon tank in back the aux tank just got to be a nuisance.

I had a 77 that was only one tank too. But the front fuel door was rusted away so I don't know how they secured the door from the factory.
