The VIN won't tell you the color. You need the color code from the data plate on the glovebox door. Durango tan was the only color for Explorers in '72.

WB: 092 - 90" wheel base

Color: X - Explorer model (the only Explorer color in 1972 was Durango Tan)

Type/G.V.W (Gross Vehicle Weight): U151 - I've never seen U151. Only U150 or U152. U150 was standard springs, U152 was the heavier duty package. No clue on U151

Body: G4 - I don't know what the body entry designates

Trans: C - 3 speed manual transmission

Axle: B8L - 3.50 gear ratio with limited slip 2780 pound rating

092 was 92" wheelbase

X is Durango Tan in the Ford Explorer Sport ad, but it's Light Goldenrod on the paint sheets. I've got Martis for 72' Explorer Sports in Chrome Yellow, Candy Apple Red, and Hot Ginger Poly also

U151 is a 4500lb gvw, I've seen it listed on Martis as 4600lb gvw as well.

G4 is avocado Ranger buckets and rear......84 Ginger Explorer buckets and rear seat. That's all I've ever seen on 72' Explorer Sports is 84.

B8L is a small bearing 9" rear with limited skip, front dana 44 with limited slip.
