Might want to check into the "mail in Rebate". Pay full price from Northern, then you have to send in a $80 rebate to Warn. Still not bad though..

I have been out of the winch scene for about 20 years. On the 8000# winch size, is there that much difference anymore between the manufacturers? I imagine a series wound motor is the way to go, power in/power out, free-spool, etc. I am thinking of adding one, but not sure if the lowest price is the best way to shop. I think an 8K would be sufficient for self recovery as I don't plan on doing anything too extreme.

I went with a 9,000# just to be sure I had a bigger room for error. Glad I did after last weekend it paid for it self.

I think the warn m8000 is an great choice. For less than $500, its a good compromise between cost, speed and brand name.

Check the specs, the new VR series looks awfully slow.

I have been using the Warn 8000 for years now, It has worked very well for me.

Question on wiring up a front / rear quickmount winch. Do you put a positive kill switch on the hot coming from the battery? Also, I'm thinking of installing a set of switches in the cab to run the winch by putting short jumper cord from the winch to the frame mounted control cable. If you need to run the winch at the winch, simply plug in the remote controller.

Any thoughts?
