Hi Everyone,
I just finished replacing the following weather seals in preparation for Winter: Quarter Panels, Windshield Upper Frame, and the Lift Gate to Tailgate.
I used 3M Black Weather Strip adhesive (highly recommend, very tacky and works great), plastic push pins from Tom's Offroad and replacement seals also from Tom's.
I still have a pretty massive gap between the tailgate and liftgate when it is closed. I have a 70 Bronco and believe original hardtop, with the anti-theft bar. Did I install the seal incorrectly?
It seems like the longer portion should actually face down to cover the top of the tailgate to deflect rain down and away from the gap between the tailgate and liftgate. The original seal, pictured below, has a somewhat similar design where it overlaps onto the top of the tailgate. The issue is the new seal, if flipped downward in that direction, would not hug on the corners of the liftgate (circled in the below photo).
Did I install this incorrectly? I already notched out the piece for the anti-theft and will just replace the seal if I have to switch it around.
