Met a guy parting out a '91 F-350, says it has a 351, 5 speed and a BW transfer case.

this would be a ZF?

would it be the right ZF for EB's?

Yes that should be a ZF. You can double check by looking for the 'webbing' pattern on the case sides and the PTO cover plates on both lower sides.
I don't know of them ever putting anything besides a ZF in a 250 or 350. There are a few in the 150s.

There's one on Phoenix Craigslist for $400, +$250 for the transfer case.

There was a SB 4x4 ZF on ebay for $399 and it was listed twice and didn't sell. Not sure if it was listed a third time or not.

I've got a few of them. Paid between 275 and 375 for each.
If you got the time to look for one you can find them in that price range.

Guy wants $100 for the trans and $100 for the 351 with speed density.
EFI pump is dead, runs if you spray starting fluid/WD-40 in it.

??? all the 5.8L Pre 97' F150's and Bronco's I've worked on all had the M5OD in them down to about the mid 80's. Some had 4 speeds but they were odd ball special order rigs.

Ford called both variants of the ZF "M5OD-HD" (and M5HD), so it's not surprising that you've seen them. But if you mean the Mazda, then THAT surprises me. I've never seen a Mazda behind a 5.8L, except when it was swapped in by the owner to replace an E4OD.

It could only be the mazda if some one replaced it instead of the ZF. I bet it's a ZF and I would be all over it for $100. A core will run you more than the asking price. If you don't want it i will take it. I will be through your area on the 24th of Sept.

Here's what I've seen in my 20+ years at Ford. F150's and bronco's have always used the lighter duty Mazda transmission M50D, the 250's and bigger use the ZF transmission SW5-47 I'm at the dealership right now and not that manuals are always right but thats what they say also. Maybe I misread but are you saying that a 96' Bronco with a 5.8L will have the ZF transmission behind it?

I've never seen a stock '96 Bronco 5.8L with anything other than an E4OD, and I think the stick was only offered behind the 5.0L (no 4.9L Bronco after '92), and that would have been the Mazda. But if a 5.8L Bronco was special-ordered with a stick, I think it would have gotten a ZF wide-ratio. I just don't think the Mazda could take it.

I know that some late-80s F-series w/4.9Ls got the ZF.

It was a zf-5. I took the trans and transfercase out today. I got the trans someone else bought the tranfercase. The engine is still there if anyone needs that.
