What all do I need to fix the door?

My driver's side door is not opening. The latch has been finicky for a while and I think something gave out. When I rolled the window down it had a hard time being rolled back up - like it was getting stuck on something.

Before I take a part the door what all do I need to just replace the mechanism?

The latch mechanism and what else? I see stuff listed like "striker post" and "rod bushing clip." Do I need any of these things to replace the door locking system?

I've already done the clean it up and relube it trick a few times in the last few years.

Thanks

More than likely one of the several clips that hold the links to the latch mechanism have brole and let on of the links drop out. Can you open the door from either the inside or outside or are both handles not working? It's a little bit of a pain but the door panel can be removed with the door closed. Once you get inside you can see what cut loose.

More than likely you do not need a new latch.

Yes, both the inside and outside handles are not engaging. And the lock pin thing cant even be fully pulled up.

So you think all I might need are some pins? How would I be able to see if the latch is worn?

You can have everything cleaned and lubed and the door still won't work if the rods are not adjusted right. Many times the rods seem to stretch and need to be shortened a couple of rounds.

Also make sure the rod is in the right slot .The one on the left is incorrect .

BTW thanks to 904Bronco for pic.

May sound like a dumb question but are the three screws that hold the latch mechanism in tight?

There will really be no way of telling until you get into it and see what is going on, it could just need cleaned and lubed or something could be broke. Take the door panel off so you can see up in there, reinstall the door lever that opens it, work it and look to see what is moving and maybe what isn't. You may have to take the panel off of the other door and compare the two. They are really simple once you get in there and see how everything works.

Yes, there is a rattle. And the window glass has been getting stuck at a particular spot for a while

that is prob the window tracks that are bad/broke

no that is the regulator, that's what actually rolls the window up an down. these are the parts

http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com/prod...driver-lower-rear-66-77-early-ford-bronco-new

There are other parts in the kit which I would suggest if you are gonna replace them, however there will be some custom fitting that will be needed

http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com/prod...le-kit-66-77-early-ford-bronco-new-both-doors

once you get inside the door look at the bottom and make sure the rubber bumper is in place and in good shape, it will look like this

and this is the bracket that holds it

Once you pull the panel off and look in there with a flashlight, it will make all this sound/look very simple and it is.

You're right. I'll take it a part Saturday and figure out what I need to replace.

Thank you all

I had/have the same problem.
Its been a VERY rainy summer and everything wants to get stuck (needs more lube).
Tried to open the door while unlocking it and it jammed in the locked position.
Took the inner panel off and moved stuff around in there until it unlocked.
Now I'm overhauling the door!

I have the panel off but with the door shut it's almost impossible to see inside. I can see a broken rod but the I've peen pulling and pushing on everything I can and nothing in the door lock is moving.

The door lock knob and rod are still in place but I can't get it to fully extend up to be fully unlocked.

Any advice on what to try next?
