What battery to use?

I am looking to get a new battery for my 04 Tacoma 4x4, and would like to know what you guys are using in your rigs. I have had used Optima batteries in the past, and was dead set on getting one for my Yota. I have been doing some research on batteries and I have seen a lot of good reviews on the following batteries: DieHard Platinum, Exide Orbital, and Odyssey Dry Cell.

After doing some research I have learned that the DieHard platinum and Odyssey are one in the same.

I know this is not Bronco related, but the guys on the Tacoma forum I have been using are "ra-tards"!

I've been happy with my orbitals.
First lasted me 8 years of daily driving and wheeling.
On my second now.
I personally love the through hole mounting.

I had real bad luck with 3 Exides and their warantee support several years ago. They have probably resolved the problems but I'm still boycotting them. I've had good luck with Interstates and a 9 year old Optima Red Top. I agree that the Yota boys don't seem to get very deep on tech issues.

I'll probably get shot in the foot by 10 or so guys on here but I've always had good luck with Optima. Just installed a new red-top recently.

If you don't plan on driving upside down or mounting the battery sideways, why not just a good flat plate battery? I just replaced my 8 year old Pep Boys battery just because it was old. I can't justify the 6-pac battery prices for my use.

what diehard platinum at sears are you talking about there are different kinds that are platinums here is the link.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/s_10153_12605_Automotive_Batteries+&+Chargers_Automotive+Batteries

Stay away from the DIE HARD PLATINUM P4 model. The front terminals failed and the plates separated on mine at (right at) one year...but before it DIED, it lost charge twice several months apart. Sears honored the warranty, no problems...but instead of the P4, I went with the DIEHARD PREMIUM Marine version called the PM2...same price. The marine battery only has a 3 yr no Qs asked warranty. Its been trouble free for several months now. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02850134000P?prdNo=6&blockNo=6&blockType=G6

In the reviews of the P4, I saw that several other people that used the front terminals had problems with them...battery failed.

I dont recall reading the reviews on the PM2, but you can do some research.

The Marine battery (PM2) has both sets of terminals on top. Its a little tight to get all my accessories routed, but its working out great and should be stable.

I would also look at the DEKA Intimidator....but there are Sears and Sear's Hardwares all over...so I feel good about the DIEHARD PLATINUMS...as far as service and warranty.

Good Luck!

I am sure that any of the Group 34 DH Platinums would be fine. BUT, I would avoid the P4 based on my experiences (above) and that of some of what I found out (research, after the fact...all previous input I heard before I bought was all positive...the bad shit came out after I had it for a while). Maybe it was a bad batch from Oddessy?.?

Stay away from the front mount configuration and you should be solid.

Thanks for all the replies! My truck is my daily driver/camping rig/family adventure vehicle, and I do "use" it off road. I think I might go with the Red Top, and just hope it is as good as the ones I had in the past. The battery I have now is whatever brand Toyota puts in their trucks, and it is dead as a door nail!
