Why does the Warn M12000 weighs 136 pounds, and the Mile Marker SE12000 weighs only 86 pounds?
I see that the Warn has 25 more feet of cable, but that should not weigh more the 8 lbs. That is still 42 lbs. difference.

The one thing that nobody has stated is that Warn, because of their name, is kind of like Nike. You are paying an additional price for name sake. Everyone is going to have one opinion over another as to what winch they prefer, but like someone said, the US military changed their winches out from Warn to MM. When I was in the market for a winch, I looked at both but then I ran across an article on MM's website that said that about the military. I looked around and found a few more articles saying the same thing and that the military changed and that is what really pushed me for the MM. If there is any one group of people that absolutely abuse their equipment, it is the Army. If they can put enough faith in this winch then I guess I could as well. That and the fact that I got the 9k lb with a 2k lb ATV winch for $575 & free shipping.

It isn't. The Milemarker weight given is a net weight that doesn't include the cable. I don't recall the weight that was on the side of my box but it was over 100 lbs.

we warranty nearly twice the mm's as we do warns at work.

That really says it all. I know a Milemarker 9000 failed on my buddies sammi when we needed it real bad.

Also didn't the military go with the hydraulic unit?

I've had a Warn XD9000i and just got a 9.5ti I'll be installing in a few weeks.

For the money the MM's look good, but for my primary I will still run a Warn. I have a great local 4x4 shop that is one of Warn's factory service centers. They stock all the parts and are great about warrenty claims. I'm sure I would not have this level of service with MM.

Randy Wood at Adventurous 4x4 had been selling the MM's the last couple years at the Carlisle All-Truck shows for insainly low prices. He sold 40 or 50 of them at last years show!

I may get one for use as a trailer winch for a 4 car wedge I'm looking at buying.

Not really. Earlier in the thread this person also claimed they were cheap and made of mostly plastic parts. Since I know that neither of these statements are true I would be very skeptical of anything else said by them and would take it with a grain of salt. And yes, the military did go with the Milemarker hydraulic winch instead of the Warn electric ones. I can't say that I know why because I don't but my guess is that they were having too many failures. Again that is just a guess but you still have to wonder why they made the change.

No one debates about which is better, hydraulic or electric. The hydraulics run forver without overheating and they pull more of the stated rating than electrics; given a properly matched pump. This is probably why the military chose the hydraulic units, they work every time when the engine is running.

I had the understanding that Warn owned MM or MM bought some or all of the parts in its winches from Warn.

why would you be skeptical of what im saying? im speaking from experience...not what i read on the net about them, which appears to be where some of the statements in this thread have come from %)

...and THEY ARE CHEAP. everything about them screams cheap to me. whether it be the bracket for the solenoid pack thats held on by 2 screws and a zip tie or the PLASTIC engage/disengage lever, or the rubber remote.....you decide :D

I'm looking at the MM hydrolic winch for my truck. Anybody have personal experience with these?

Sounds like they are good, but it scares me that the engine has to be running for it to work. (epsecially if you have engine problems on the trail). Thoughts?

since i read this thread i talked to a bunch of people! I heard of 8 guys that switched from warn to milemarker because that say that the warn gives up or that the insides come apart. I also heard alot of good things about the warns. The way i look at it is if you think there cheap dont buy one! If your a guy that wants one get it. Im not poor but im not rich either i am all for name brand. I bought a warn 3 years ago, git in all kinds of trouble do things that most wont, tear up more than most also! The winch has not failed me yet! for the rubber remote its a good idea. Your in a 4 wheel dr. if your useing a winch your probably pissed, rubber dont crack or break if it were to fall, get stepped on, or threw at something. My 02 thats all!

I occasionally wheel with a group of guys that work at four wheel parts. The last time I went somewhere with them when we got to the guys house they were putting a brand new Milemarker on a jeep that was a warranty job. He said they had like four of them to warranty that week.

When I get a winch I’ll probably go with a hydraulic Milemarker.
