Looks like maybe a switch of some kind? popped off after a drive.

Does it still have the spring-loaded plunger thingy at the business end?
The hose clamp holding the mounting bracket to the column lets you adjust it for any changes in linkage movement. So you can adjust the switch to a position that lets it work, but not so close to the 1st/Rev arm that it gets beat up over time.
