I’m taking the wheel to this just to throw a little black paint on it and I’m thinking this isn’t your ordinary Ford 9 inch. Bad welds, etc. What did the PO do here?

People are so used to seeing modern robotic welded car parts that they are stunned by old manual welds done by indifferent UAW factory workers back in the day.

Thanks, I just haven’t seen them this bad and first 68.

They were well known to be leakers around the rear cover where it was welded to the main housing.
Looks like you have one of the early style too, with the fill plug on the back. Probably the last year they did that maybe?
I thought it was changed earlier than '68, but maybe not. Or else you have an early build '68?
