As I am merrily disconnecting every bit of wire behind my dash, I notice two leads going into the driver's side door-hing post!

What the heck is this guy?? Does anyone know it's purpose? My new door post doesn't have a hole for it, so I want to know whether I need to cut one before I weld the replacement in!

Thanks all!

Bill

A dome light sensor switch! I thought it was something like that.

Are these still sold? Can replacements be found?

I like the looks to be original, but functionality is the first need of this vehicle!

6677ebman,

Not that I am doubting you, but are you sure of that? I can get the numbers off it , if it is needed. Why would an ambient temp gauge be kept in the door jam? How did you learn this about the part?

Thanks

Bill

It might not be a fact, but a guy I know who has forgotten more about EB's than most of us know told me (a long time ago) that it was an ambient temperature sensor, and he's the kind of guy you didn't argue with!!

Doesn't look like it is factory to me. It doesn't look like it has a FoMoCo part number on it either. My '74 has the hole in the post like yours but no switch. I was under the impression that EB's never came with a dome light that turns on when the door is opened. I could be wrong.

Every U-series (truck, van, Bronco) from '71, '72, & early '73 had those on them, whatever the heck they are. I've had several '71-'72 F100's that had them, too. I'm sticking with the ambient temp sensor thing;D ;D Sounds good to me

My '74 has the same hole with a plug. The shop manual references a courtesy light sensor switch on the Econoline, but I don't see anything like this for the Bronco.

I'm pretty sure 6677ebman is correct and that it's part of the emissions system.

It's not a dome light switch because there's no actual switching mechanism. It is a FOMOCO factory part. D2AF follows Ford's numbering convention for a 1972 part. My '72 has one with part #D2AF-12A164 and is stamped with both a Ford oval logo and "SEMCO"

According to the `72 Prelimanary Manual, Below 49 deg. it allows for normal vacuum advance. When it gets @ 60, the contacts close and it retards the timing.
