I own a 76 Special Decor as pictured in your post. On the original window sheet the color is listed as Cyan Red.
Is your glovebox stamped with paint code 2 by chance? Or blank?
Cyan Red is a new one to me but I have seen Cayan Red, which I believe is the same as Tangerine...

I thought the same thing it is amazing how different something can look with some oxidation versus something that has been shined up. Also I have seen repaints that claimed to be a color and they don't look any thing like the original color I guess different companies can be off a little .For instants Wimbledon white I have seen so many different variations some even look yellow.

Here’s a more recent pic after polishing. It has no red hue to it but changes several shades of orange in different light. Here’s a couple more pics as well as glove box and original owners card. Good stuff :)

What's the B on your owners card, after the VIN? Not sure that I've ever seen the owners card for a special order, color code possibly?

That is the maintenance schedule I believe. Though it doesn’t match the glovebox ?

The manual does say there are two maintenance schedules for the ‘77 and refer to the glovebox.

... I had a parts House back in the days.
I sold DuPoint Paint.. 3 OF US IN TOWN AT THAT TIME SOLD PAINT.
I had DuPoint .. one had PPG. & NAPA Prick.. had Martin Senour.
........
.. Between the 3 of us we could figure out what color 95% of them was.
SOME Times I had to call into DuPoint .
Man do I wish I still have my books. I'd even hand written notes into them.
.. I think it tangerine .. But that's from memory & I sold out in 1995.
...........
... But if your not happy with the info you get from one source .. Jump to another supplier. & No 2 company call the paint names the same . So Tangerine might be Bugger Pink in the next brand.

It’s got to be a shade of vista but almost looks like it’s cut with chrome yellow. Here’s another angle inside when I stripped the interior to replace the dash pad. Lots of original orange. I think I’ll polish a spot on the underside of the hardtop and go from there. Also a pic of a 77 mustang in vista orange.

...I'm surprised that noone has said take it to the local Paint store & Have them shout a picture with their Paint Computer ..
I had one just as I sold out my store. I'd had it about 6 months.
The very 1st one was no more accurate at matching than I was by hand & eye.. I'm not sure how much better they are today.
.. But yes if you can find some clean fresh paint inside to polish up . You should be able to match it.

Mine was originally that orange. But was a fleet vehicle and special paint so I have no idea what paint code.

I did scrape a piece of paint off under the hood and had Industrial Coatings of Portland mix up 4 rattle cans with hardener. I matched by eye against 10,000 orange color chips since the color changes so much in different light. I sprayed my rockers and about 8” up on the front and rear quarters. Wet sanded with 2000g and polished. You can hardly tell standing right near to it but is a hint darker. By far the best touch up cans I have used with adjustable fan nozzle. I think Ill shoot a sample and take to Ford this week and see what color they want to call it.
