What transfer cases will fit Dodge NV4500? 4Bt build

I plan on putting a Dodge NV4500 tranny behind my 4BT and am having a hard time finding the best transfer case to fit behind it.

The Dodge NV4500 comes in 23 and 29 spline outputs (from what I understand).

Stak, Atlas, 205.....(not a 241)

Any thoughts

What do you plan on doing with the complete project?
Don't need much low range, Ford 205 with the right Mopar guts should be the cheapest way to do it.
Want something with lower gears and bomb proof? Atlas has worked for years.
Personally I like the gearing options in the Stak. You get a normal low range and a super low range and can still keep a fairly small package.
I think they even offer adaptors to put the stock Bronco D20 back there if you want, but I would worry about the diesel torque and the output shaft

I like the atlas just having a hard time parting with the $2000 to buy one. Just started looking at the Stak cases. They seem as nice as the atlas, but again $2000.

Might just have to bite the bullet and crack open the wallet. Was just trying to see if I could get buy with a cheap 205 that matted right up, but doesn't look like that exsits.

thank

The narrow frame rails, drivers side drop and Dodge input really kill your options.

Advance Adapter sell adapters that will work for a ford d20 and np205. Both 23 and 29 spline nv4500. I have an a518 w/ 23 spline and I have their adapter to go to the d20. That adapter kit is for the nv4500.

It's not in my Bronco (yet), but I have a 23-spline (gas) Dodge NV4500 and AA adapter kit to the Ford NP205. Worked fine in my F150 for the past decade, although I did rework the tailhousing to incorporate an oil seal around the spud shaft since I didn't want my t-case lube contaminating the NV...they're picky about what oil you run in them and most of your options are not cheap. Since there weren't many aftermarket options in 2000, I went with the GM spec'd NV4500 oil and just made sure the tranny and t-case weren't swapping spit so to speak.

I have a 4bt in my 78 chevy. I used a NP241, but that is a passenger drop and you need a driver. However, I also needed a 29 spline input to connect to my 4500. I pulled apart the 241 I had and was able order a different input shaft from a driver drop 241LD and swap it in.

Point is, a NP241 input can be swapped easily to be 29 splines. They are strong, cheap, shift well, and you can get a slipe yoke eliminator for them. Then just swap imputs to the dodge hd version with 29 splines.

PM me if you need more info.

So roughly what did it cost you to use the np241?

I like the NP241 option, just worry about the ratio. Haven't wheeled much but have been out with Jeep Rubicons that had 4:1 and they made things look easy. Would hate to build up my Bronco and have that "if I only had a 4:1" feeling.

No denying, NP241 is the easiest transfer case to mate to the NV4500.

I think I paid 75 dollars for the NP 241. Use Car-part.com.

130 for the input plus I needed a different bearing for around 10.

Also, with a 241, NV4500, and a 4bt, I doubt you will be looking for lower gears. Mine goes over anything! But I guess I don't do real extreme rocks with it.

Lots of good info there guys keep it coming ...I'VE also have all the diesel stuff for my 4BT NV 4500 bellhousing and flywheel cp& pp t/o slave .. but I've been looking for a 241 ..I thought all the 241 were driver side drops are they not ..AS I read one of those post I need a 241LD.. I felt like ''A.'' the Dana 20 is too light for all you can hand it and ''B.'' the adapters cost too much to go between the 4500 & D20.
....Now I do have mine set up with the NP435& Dana 20 at this time ''not running yet'' but all is mounted... I plan to crank it with this set up because I was running the NP435 when I pulled my V8. & all was good..So let deal with one problem at a time.. But I'd sure like to have that NV4500.

passenger drops came in early 90s chevies and late 80s and early 90s dodges. The dodge ones are cool because they don't use a slip yoke.

The ld and the hd dodge versions with the drivers drop were both used with a 29 spline input so that part exists with "swap-ability" into a lot of years of 241s.

I don't think anyone makes it anymore, but I recall a slip yoke eliminator once existed for a 271/272

As good as a D20 is, I would not use it here. After you do the adaptor and an upgraded output shaft to bring it to life you might as well drop the extra 50¢ and just do the Atlas.

For a tight budget without a lot of low range I still think a 205 mix of parts would be the cheapest.
Or, how is this. Can you put a Dodge 203 range box on the NV4500 without a bunch of adaptors? (I don't know dodge stuff well enough to answer this) If so how about a 203/205 doubler?

I've read about the np241 but never looked into it. It is a really affordable swap. Thanks for the info.

From what I have seen, the 205 swap is not as affordable. The 29 spline 205s were only available in the old dodges with the getrag 5 speed. They seem to fetch a pretty penny when you find one. Also, those are passenger drop. to do a drivers drop you end up having to do some machine work to the case to fit the 29 spline input. I wanted to go that route, but after a lot of research, the 241 ended up way cheaper- and I think I like it better. It shifts so nice. Going down the road at 75, just slide the lever back and your in four wheel. Its quite and has a way better low range than a 205.

Should be the np203 that everyone wants for a doubler. Pass side shifter.
