I have what I believed to be a 69, but it doesn't seem like the either the early or the late front turn signals will fit into the grill based on the mounting holes. It came with the truck and I don't believe it to be an aftermarket, but I can't figure out how there is one hole in the bucket (early style) and one hole outside the bucket (later style, but in the corner rather than midway down the side). What am I missing here? Which lights do I need and how do they mount?

Thanks.

Here are the pics

I've seen the mounting pads, but they don't seem like they would line up either....Are they just held by the one outside bolt?

The older style lights seem like they would be a perfect fit, save for the mounting holes. I have to be making this tougher than it is......

Wow, ok, thanks all. It's like they changed their minds on which style they were going to use mid production! Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll be going with the adapters.

I think what happened was the Feds mandated new, larger minimum size regulations for lights on vehicles in '69 and the Bronco's lenses were too small to meet this mandate. Thus Ford (and others) made the change. Ford opted to not re-stamp the grill for larger lenses to keep the cost down.

My "theory" only and someone more knowledgeable about this can either confirm or give us the straight scoop.

Dangit, something else to buy, smaller turn signals. I was just sitting at the table thinking "what a dumb way to make these lights fit" my 73, with that rubberized gasket thingy

There is a thread on this site for making the mod. You can grind down the larger buckets to fit and then get the smaller lenses and gasket, you can get them with a clear lens and use a colored bulb or get a tinted lens and use a clear bulb. I made this change about 7 years ago when I repainted my 1974 Bronco. I used the tinted lens. I always hated the rotted rubber block and poor engineering after thought lens used on the later models.

I don't care for the later / larger turn signal either. I have the extra hole filled and use an adaptor plate to fit the older style. WH has the adaptor plates.
