No, I'm not selling my Bronco. :) I'm getting an appraisal this weekend as part of switching over to classic insurance.

I thought it would be fun to see where you guys would price it and then see how close the appraisal comes back.

Specs on my Bronco:

  • '72 Bronco, wagon
  • Stock 302 2V with nothing done to it (I keep waiting for it to blow up so I can replace it, but it keeps going)
  • NP435 4 speed
  • Power disc brakes (Chevy)
  • Power steering
  • 3 1/2" susp lift + 2" body lift, RS9000 shocks
  • 33"x12.50-15 BFG KM2's
  • 4.11 gears (D44 w/ Aussie Locker, Ford 9" factory limited slip)
  • Bed liner from tailgate to firewall
  • Custom family cage
  • Beard seats (front and back), Tuffy console
  • Stone Crusher heim steering
  • Custom 2 into 1 exhaust, Flowmaster muffler

Jon, your Bronco looks great. Based on my experience owning/selling three in San Diego, I would estimate minimum $18K and for the right buyer ~$20K. I expect it drives as well as it looks; clean undercarriage, no rust, etc...:)

Correct. Rust free and straight. I don't know about clean exactly. I do take it offroad. :)

I didn't do a frame off restoration or anything, but did media blast the tub to get rid of all the rust, bondo, etc. And I have the advantage of living in AZ so it didn't start rusting immediately after. ;D

I am also in Phoenix and would raise the bar. Depending on the interior I would say closer to $20k. Not too many good ones in the Phoenix market. Hope that heps:)

I noticed in your brief discription of spec's you just highlighted some of the easy to see stuff, the pic's tell a different story. For someone who know's and apprciates nice/clean Bronco's, quality parts that work together in harmony, and attention to detail....I see more than the highlighted spec's you mentioned.

I also have classic insurance, hagerty and I have an agree'd upon *replacement value*.

"Worth" is a funny word and means different things to different people. To some folks worth may mean; how much money they need the sale to generate because they have other obligations for the money, some people think worth is the total of a collection of receipts of how much $ they spent on it, some people think worth is a negotiated price between seller & buyer based on current market conditions....and many other forms of worth to different people.

For insruance value, I feel that "worth" should be actual true *replacement cost*.

If this Bronco was demolished and you had to replace it, how much would that cost?

With some homework I'm certain you, of all people -a very knowledgable Bronco guy who operates the best Bronco website on the planet, can come up with a fair and honest replacement cost and answer that magic question.

If I had to throw a number at it, and my number is based on replacement cost, for insurance value...I'm leaning toward $22 -27k.

HaHa!! Jon you got a nice rig, you know how much you have in it and what it would cost to replace it. I would be concerned as to what the insurance will cost, say $15K vs $20K vs $25K. Most outfits will sell the amount you want(within reason) but the cost can be $100 more, per 6 or 12 months, at each level???

I hope your insurance is like your .38 in the glove box and that spare tire....that you never need any of them!!!
Good Luck!!;D;D;D

Just like a house, I look at it as how much it would cost to rebuild/ replace it if it caught on fire. I don't look at it as how much I would pay for it. I'd ask for $20k-$25k or more depending on the increase price of your premiums. If there is a $10 difference between $20k and $30k then I'd pay the $10 and drive comfortably.

I just upped my insurance with haggerty last fall. I went from an agreed value of 13,000 to 18,000, I forget how much more it was but it wasn't very much. Not sure what an appraisal costs but you might not even need it, they didn't ask me for one and you could save that money and put it towards your insurance. Nice looking Bronco Jon, cool color. I would guess the value at 23,500

High teens to low 20's would be my guess, the cut rockers will hurt the value for the "ebay" crowd. For insurance I would go for the 25-30k range, the extra amount of insurance is usually very little money and gives you the confidence that you can go out to replace with sufficient money on hand.

Jon, who are you getting insurance with?
Farmers. There's a local agent who insures a lot of the 4x4 clubs here. He can get classic insurance (ie. no emissions here in AZ) without restrictions on off road use. Most classic insurance companies won't even give you a quote if you take it off the street at all.
