Unless its varnished up badly then regular old carb cleaner and compressed air to blow out the passages will work fine. If its varnished up well you can get a gallon can of the chem dip(also made by berryman) and soak the whole carb then blow out all the passages real well. I usually do this along with more regular carb cleaner.

Unless they have changed the makeup of carb dip do not put your hands in it,I did years ago and they tingled for days and I could taste it. But it cleaned it like new. They have probably made it Green by now which means it probably doesn't work as well.

I think you can buy a gallon jug ready to dip at Autozone for $25. Gloves. Liver damage... Anything touches your skin is absorbed and in your blood stream..

I would highly recommend soaking it. NAPA has a really good carb dip by the gallon. I think it is the Mac's brand relabeled for NAPA.

I have tried to rebuild a couple of carbs without dipping them only to have to pull them back apart and throw them in the dip bucket. It seems since the new reformulated/ethanol fuels came out that spraying them down with the standard carb cleaner just doesn't do it most of the time.

X2 on the Berryman's. It is really good.

Hey joshnjulie1 ,its replacing a worn out carter carb.I know, why rebuild a edelbrock. I've run Carter, Edlebrock, and even Holley, and have always had no problem with Carter or edlebrock.I know it seems everyone's go EFI but I'm still a little old school and can't justify speeding the money on EFI when everything has work so far.My son is big into Subaru's and is always trying to get me to switch to EFI and turbo. I said when I'm gone you can try talking your mom into changing it but doubt she will (little old school to).

Strip it and put all parts and body in a metal basket that fits in a 5 gallon container of Gunk carb solution and let it soak for several days. Don't think a 4bbl or a 2bbl body will fit in a one gallon container.

I Am 54 Now ,but when I was about 18 I dropped a screw out of the basket into the 5 gallon pail of gunk Carb Cleaner ( I Really Think That Was The Brand ) I reached in and picked up the screw off the bottom. I No Sooner Had Pulled My Hand Out That My Whole Arm Started Burning Like It was On Fire . Got to a water hose beating cheeks as fast as I could and It gave me that taste that even years later I could remember it like it was yesterday If I caught a wiff in a garage . The really funny thing I remember , is how my arm looked like it had been Polished and was slick looking .

Someone said it is probably green or GREENER than what I got into ......Might not be a bad thing . That stuff would probably take the hide off a Wooly Mammoth ,Took mine
