Considering how gutless a stock 170 is, I can't imagine going over about 35mph in a four banger equipped Bronco. %)

What was the donor out of?

Hey now! My 170 combined with the Dana 20 in 4Lo and 4.56 gears was unstoppable. Well, unstoppable in a field. And because the brakes were bad. But still!

Weren't there some Mavericks or Pintos back in the day that had 4 bangers in them? And didn't Ford make some supercharged 4 banger for the Mustang once? I can't imagine anyone actually going through with either of those.

About the closest I would get to a 4 banger would be a 4BT.

You can't rule anything out with old Fords. You could get pretty much any motor in any vehicle if you knew the right people. I'm trying to think if Ford had ANY 4 cylinder models in 1967. Mustang? No. Fairlane? No. Galaxie? No. Was the Falcon still around? Even so I think the smallest motor Ford made in the late 60's was the 170 I-6.

Wrong again. Evidently the 144cid "Thriftpower" I6 was available in the '67 Falcon. Still, I don't think Ford had a 4-banger in their parts bin until the venerable mid 70's Pinto/Maverick/Mustang II. This is fun though, it's just like trying to figure out if Ford ever actually put a 427 in a Mustang, but at the opposite end of the perfromance spectrum!

I haven't seen it, just heard about at our Sat. morning M&G in So Cal that a guy has one in his garage. I was told it looks like an old service vehicle (ie; Mail truck ?)

There was a turbocharged 4 cylinder in the mustang from '79-'80 and I think again from '83-'84

A buddy at work drives a 1964(?) ford falcon van with a 144cid in it. I'm not a big van guy but that old school van is pretty cool. He doesnt seem to mind the engine performance.

Ford did not produce any 4-cylinder engines during the period between end of Model A production and the first 98cc (1600) in 1971. (Those produced for the Ford 'Jeep' during WWII excepted of course)

Ford made the four cyl Angela from '39 to about '68. The motor in my '71 Mercury Capri had one of those in it.

SVO mustangs were made from '84-'86.....4cyl turbo. Rated around 205 hp. If i'm not mistaken the GT 5.0L mustang was only rated at 210 hp around those years...

Btw....i've got a '85 SVO sittin in the yard. Bought it about 2 yrs ago when I was in college because it was one of those deals I couldn't pass up. It run when i bought it...on 2 cyl..... i have never messed with it to try and get it running better

The crazy part about the SVO mustangs is that they had more standard equipment, more options, and options that were ONLY available on the SVO.... like 5-lug wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes, and leather interior. The fully loaded SVO also had a price tag about 4K more than a fully loaded V8 GT of the same year.
