Which Derale cooler for the 4R70W? Mount?

Hi,

I am working on my 4R70W conversion and need to get a cooler ordered. I live in Phoenix so a good cooler is a must.

I am torn between the 13900 (tube fin) and the 13760 (stack plate). The 13760 is only $40 more.

Any other suggestions?

Also I have AC so the bay is already hot and an auxiliary gas tank so I believe my only option is under passenger seat. Any other ideas?

Thanks, Keith

A stack plate cooler will always cool better, I actually got a stack plate cooler from a junk yard off of a 1 ton Chevy duelly fits in front of the radiator and keeps my 4R trans temps in the 180 range on even hot days in So Cal. But Phoenix is quite a bit hotter , get the biggest one that will fit

What spap said. $40 more for the stacked plate is money well spent. When I had a similar arrangement, I put it on the pass. side inner fender and grafted some louvers into the hood to help with airflow. will try to post pics later.

I've since gone to a 03 superduty trans cooler and I think it works too well as trans never seems to get above 140 or so and I do work it hard. see post 18 & 19

Hey sandman the super duty cooler looks like a good option did you mount that on the fender too. I like the trans temps you are getting

I run an AOD with that cooler (13760) mounted under the passenger seat. It is spaced about 2-3" off the floor for air flow and it works fairly well most of the time. I also have a superduty cooler that I plan to mount down below the front bumper some day. In Phoenix it wouldn't hurt to run both frankly. Mine can and does get hot if it's close to 95-110, the trans can get fairly hot, say around 220-230. It normally runs around 190-210 or so with just one cooler.

I think I have the 13760 as well. Extra Fan with Thermostat Switch. I used 6AN fittings and Hose.

^^^^yeo yep
When I was running a C4 I used a Derale atomic cooler it was on a 180 * stat. It would trigger the fan and it would still continue to climb.
I put a stack plate before the Derale and It would constantly stay below 180 the fan never kicked on . That made me a believer in a stack plate cooler .
