Ordering a power brake kit for drum/drum. This manual think is not gonna work anymore. Toms seems to have a nice kit as do the others. I've ordered a lot from toms just because I've have great luck with quality. What kit did you use and how do you like it?

Thanks

That is what I was leaning toward. Mine is a 66 with the single chamber master cylinder. I also just noticed duff has a kit that looks like it works for DRUM/drum disc/disc and drum /disc. It is a bit more but wonder if it would save money later if go to disc on the front.

Skiddy are you running drum drum by chance

i am running disc/drum, duffs was my next choice, they all are pretty close to the same. Admin did a tech article on Tom's if you would like to read it.

I would put the money towards a disc kit before I spent an money on the P/B set up. I was going to do the complete P/B and disc set up all at once. i had drums on my 69, I installed the new disc kit, and to be honest it stops so good with little effort of the pedal that I'm not going to bother with P/B. I am running stock tires though.

i went with a 37'tire and about to put them on and want the PB set up. I have heard the same response about the front disc breaks as you have Clarrance. I was planning on going with the disc also later but figured I would get the most benefit with PB first

Has anyone tried the kit from ABS? I'm running their kit on my hot rod project and got the full kit: disc brakes, MC, and power booster with all needed hardware for about a grand. I spoke with Ed there and he said they have a full kit for the bronco for under a grand?? That will probably be my route when it comes time. I think their web address is abspowerbrake.com ?

All the vac. boosters have the same power assist so look at the construction, M/C new or rebuilt, P/valve included(don't rec. the P-vale) and shipping will be the only diff.

I installed P/B kits from Tom's on both my '66 and '74 with drum brakes and have been happy with the results and stopping performance of the drum brakes. I doubt that I would ever upgrade to disks.

Just curious. I see a few people recommend not running a p valve if you are running drums. Has anyone run with and without?

Hey Yeller, what year did you install the duff system on? I think I am leaning toward that system now. I am putting it on a '66 so the brake pedal is different in the fact of the brake light switch. I am wondering if I can still use my stock one with their system?

This is what I used on my last one.
If your 66 has the inline pressure switch you can just plumb it right back in line.

You can install the brake light switch on your 66 pedal. The problem with the pressure switch is there may be no place to put it on the new M/C. Some M/Cs have extra ports so you can use the pressure switch.
P-valves reduce rear breaking which means you have less total braking and the whole problem comes from not having enough brake on the front. So rather than reduce rear braking to balance why not increase front braking? With drums go a little bigger front wheel cylinders, with ford disc you can use the T-bird calipers to balance the brakes and have better/more braking. If you think you need a P-valve install a LBS valve. I does not reduce rear braking but just slows the rears a little for better control. There is a lot more to this braking and I am only giving you the bottom line IMO. I don't think the P-valve does any thing good and do not run it on any of my EB.
