Who has the earliest production?

After looking at our 66's VIN to respond to the 66-68 Grille Survey , I went to the BrocnOhio site to check the production month.

It looks like ours was one of the first 364 made. I've been told that this numbering sequence was also shared by the Falcon or some other model, so it does not necessarily mean that ours was the 364th Bronco made. Does anyone have any more info about that?

Who has an eariler VIN than 732364?

While I dont know for a fact I remember reading somewhere that broncos and trucks used the same numbering sequence so #365 could have been a F100 or other Fseries truck. I would aslo suspect that there may be some unlisted numbers for some of the real early 66's that were made in early 65.
But otherwise I'd say your #364 is probably near one of the first made

my 66 is a 128 so is that even older.

If the VIN reads U1__L732128, then yes, it is earlier. The blank spaces will depend on your body and engine.

Which grille type do you have? (see recent thread for pics of unique grilles on early production 66's).

So Drew did you keep 364 of the JL's?

Oh, I found some black ones, but it looks like he wants close to $30 a set.

Supposedly the first number was 732000, so you need the whole number to tell.

Nope, never even thought about it! :(

However, we did record who got each we shipped so I may have to contact them about a trade. ;D

what do I have?

so I have a 66 with the vin of U14FL807134 and if they started with 732000 does that mean that they made 68,000 broncos in 66?

We wish
Broncos were produced along side other trucks and vin numbers are not a reflection of how many units of that particular truck were produced but rather how many total trucks of all kinds that were produced in the production run.
Aproximatly 23,776 were produced in 66

As a sidebar question to the earliest production, I remember reading at the broncograveyard site that at some point in the 66 production Ford went from
a steel to a plastic left front air vent. Broncograveyard does not give
a date for that change. It might indicate age as well.

The information there also states production started October 1st 1965.

My question then, at least as it pertains to my rig, which included the original owners manual ( he took possesion in a small Central Washington town the middle of October 65 and signed the manual), means that if it was in production starting the 1st of October. How did it get manufactured, shipped,
and delivered to the original owner in two weeks?

Could October 1st be the date they designated specific model numbers to the bronco?

If you look at the Broncohio link at the top of this thread you will see that there are ranges of numbers that were assigned for each month of production.

I'm sure the amount of alloted numbers far exceeded actual production to ensure they did not run out of numbers. In addition, the numbers from these series were not issued exclusively to the Bronco. Other vehicles (F series and?) were also issued VIN's from these pools of numbers which is why it is quite possible that rhenrys68's and our 66 are first week or less production.

The date of our VIN indicates August 65. I have found inconsistancies in some of the data between Jeff's catalog and other sources such as the history written by Todd Z.

It's something I have started to look into for a pending project....

Drew - I wouldn't be surprised if there are errors in stuff I've written. Let me know if there are corrections needed!

I'm not sure about Jeff's, but is it me or does that look like it has a lift kit installed? I have not had the oppertunity to see that one in person yet, but it looks like he detailed it well. I'm not sure about the chrome fender mount mirror however? I've only ever seen those in white.
