One mounts to case, other to frame. There is a bushing setup that resembles a body mount that goes between them.

they both have the three holes in them that is on the case, does one of them bolt to the frame and the case?

Yes, one bolts to the frame, the other bolts to the case. As was said, there is a rubber bushing and long bolt (similar to a body mount setup) that bolts the two brackets together.

sorry, meant to ask, they both bolt to the case, both the frame mount and the top piece, then the bolt runs thru them, bushing and the frame?

so the second piece is really not needed on an early bronco, just let the bushing set on the frame and bolt the top piece to the case and stick a bolt thru it?

That was my plan. However I recently read something that said to skip it all together. Theory is two motor mounts and a single rear mount at the cross member allows it to move without twisting the frame. They said unless you have a very rigid (tube buggy) frame it needs to be able to flex some. Thoughts? I'm on the fence.

discussion has been that the side rubber mount helps with the torque, think it may more for the trans than anything else because the 205 is so heavy hanging of the back of the intermediate housing or tailshaft. I am using bushings on both my trans and t case crossmembers to help with vibration and they should absorb a bit of torque.

Make one for less that will fit better. I used an old body mount and some 3/16 plate.

I wouldn't run an NP205 without some sort of support. It weighs about 135# dry and even though it has an relatively weak 1.96:1 low range, it's still going to wreak havoc on your motor mounts if you don't do something to help constrain the torque reaction in low range.

Would not be a good idea to bolt it directly to the frame without some kind of rubber or other vibration damping.

i will have two crossmembers and both will have bushings on both ends, plus the tmr main mount will have a bushing, plus the side mount so i think i have that covered. i think i will make the side bushing myself like some suggested.

This is what I did on my black box/205.

discussion has been that the side rubber mount helps with the torque,.

That side mount is the only thing that reacts to the torque on a 205. The other rear mount only supports its weight.

Very different situation than the widely spaced mounts on the D20 adapter that do both; support the weight and react the torque.

good pics OX, I now know how I am going to build my side mount for the 205. also think I may go on top of the frame like you with my trans cross member.

That's one way to make the crossmember clear the front driveshaft.

Thanks

Thanks. While the ZF is apart I’m going to change the rear housing. The trans mounts are cracked. No big deal. I found a mod to work around that but tonight I noticed that it’s also cracked where the 205 shifter mounts. It doesn’t seem like an easy task to find a housing though. The one I found was over $1,000. I’m going to check the local yard on Monday.
