Why don’t vendors make adhesive Ranger Chrome Belt Trim

Trim on new cars is almost always 3M Adhesive. Why haven’t vendors made adhesive belt trim so you don’t have to drill holes and use all of the different clips. I understand why it was clips 50 years ago but double sided tape has come a long way.

I am planning on modifying my belt trim to use adhesive. I am trying to figure out if I use thicker adhesive tape, layer tape, or use epoxy or other product to fill the void in the back to allow double sided tape to be used.

Open to ideas!

When I bought my ‘77 it had belt-line trim held on with trim tape. They used strips about 1/8 in wide which just covered the contact points on the edges.
That trim was on there, and on there good, for over 23 years, it could have been 40 years, before I took it off with no damage to the paint.

A little off topic, but Dennis Carpenter does sell the fenderside Bronco emblems with the adhesive tape already installed. They still have the pins but you can snap them off if not needed. After paint I plan on using the emblems with tape but without the barrel clips (they seem to mar/chip the paint). The pins will only be to locate the emblems.

I wondered the same thing. I want to add belt trim but not interested in drilling into original sheet metal.

My solution is cadding up some spacers in Solid Works that fit in the backside of the molding and 3D printing them, leaving a gap of the double sided trim tape.

I will let the forum know how well they work (or dont).

sounds good! maybe apply an adhesive primer to the 3d printed part so the double sided tape sticks better?
