I know right?

I would be extremely worried about the Joe average wheeler helping you and they lose a hand from the line tightening up so fast. :(

Update hr later: I really don't care about speed much. My HS9500i is very fast but what I care about is getting me OUT of whatever is keeping me from making it back for a HOT dinner! lol I have stalled out my 9500i with only 25' of cable out until I put a snatch block in. I was literally buried in wet concrete snow up to the bumpers front and rear and the door handle on the drivers side. I could have used two snatch blocks which would make all the difference- done it before. I get worried about cable breaking then even though there aren't any broken strands in it... that's a load.

I agree for the most part about the air flow, I never had an issue with our old suburban or last K5 over heating with a brush guard and extremely high mounted winch, almost center of the grill, same bumper.

One thing I wanted to bring up that I forgot about creating a reply and answering phone calls....

There are some very high-quality planetary winches from other parts of the world that are very well engineered that do not have in drum braking, which heats up the drum. Comup and Sherpa come to mind, both have distribution in the USA.

Someone needs to put a Gigglepin on their bronco:love::ROFLMAO::cool:
I wheeled with a Heep guy than ran a GigglePin. He worked hard getting stuck several times and that winch was like having a helicopter on call. lol I'm sure you could use it to stretch your wheelbase... :)

I am actually looking into a few parts as we are meeting my wife's cousin from Germany in Wales again and GigglePin is located in the UK.... :)

I put a Harbor Freight Badlands 12000 lb with synthetic rope on my car trailer and it is a beast. I have had no issues from using it on dead skid steers and tractors to vehicles. The remote is nice when you're loading things by yourself. I plan on putting the same one on the front of my 72.
I agree!!! ;)

I was contemplating starting a thread like this, thanks for beating me too it. I have a 9500 Mile marker that I'm looking to replace. It's on it's last leg, 20 years old, free spool doesn't work, housing is cracked. I'm at a point in life where I don't mind spending the money on a name brand, if I'm getting something for it. That being said, I doubt I'll be buying new as there are a shit ton of "used" ones on marketplace from the jeep crowd.

what is this “GigglePin of which y’all speak? If it were for a Glock, I would know, but not familiar in relation to winches.

Ramsey and Warn are mostly built in the USA, they have Chinese stuff for some of it but closest I’ve seen. Ramsey is still built in Tulsa, but there current management and marketing could care less about the recreation market, so you see nothing from them anymore, they make a fortune from their commercial stuff and just don’t chase recreation.

It LOOKS as expensive as you said. Not certain my budget will tolerate that much “quality” and pulling power. It is pretty nice to admire, though.

Yeah 13hp in an electric winch is a LOT 😂 good thing they are fast otherwise you’d have 2000# of batteries trying to keep up😂

That’s exactly what I put on my car trailer. Haven’t tried hoisting a skid steer but it doesn’t break a sweat on my Bronco.

Here ya go. Gigglepin
They are about $5000 by the time you get them to the US

..and they wind in rope almost as fast as 302 powered Bronco! :)

(did I just say that)? lol

They are too fast for me but there are a couple 8274 & 9500i parts that can/will break. That's why I want a couple Giggle pin upgrades when I ever get a chance to build the extended drum 8274

First winch I ever had was a "Beaver", 12,000 lb. Jerked me out of a lot of spots in my 77' LC!!! That was in 78'!!! I used to sell the rig and keep the winch!! Sold the LC to buy a house when I got married, kept the winch but had to let it go, put a 8274 on my 83 Bronco, sold it, I let fordman buy my 8274. the one from my Ram truck is on the front of Stretch, a Warn , the Ramsey from an EB is on the back, sometimes ya' want to go back,, I went Smittybilt on the Blue rig.!!! Winches are fun, I try hard not to need 'em!!!:cool::cool:

I need to find some pics, my first winch was a Mega Winch, very similar, 2 speed, a real work horse. I sold it to a friend, he mounted it on a trailer, I bought the trailer several years later, I still have them both :)

I’ve been running a Smittybilt 9500 with synthetic rope for several years and it’s worked well. If I upgrade I’ll most likely go to the Badlands 12k. I wheel with several guys that swear by them.

That depends on how you look at it...

They don't chase the CHEAPO market, but their winches are outstanding no matter how often (or not) you use them. So if you want a robust, reliable, strong winch, get an RE (worm-drive) and use it for recreation. I do.

I recently broke a 3/4" aircraft extension cable with a single run of the Ramsey 1/2" cable.

OK, I was pulling a dead ~60' oak tree while anchored to 2 other trees... And I had 3 batteries on the Bronco driving the winch, plus the 130A 3G at high idle, repeatedly stalling the winch on the first wrap until it wouldn't move, and then I left it sitting like that overnight (there were a few breezes). But still - the small cable shouldn't have been able to break the larger one.

The only winch I ever owned was a Warn 8274. Never broke a cable but did come close to stalling it using a snatch block pulling double line. Would probably have kept it if there had been the option of synthetic line.
