Winch size

First time buying a winch. I went with a smittybilt 10,000lbs x20. Is that too big?

Nah....It doesn't weigh much more than an 8000 lb winch. So no harm just extra strong. Wish I had done that.

8-9.5K is most common on EBs, but 10K is fine.

12-15K is just almost always useless overkill on an EB which generally has a weight and cost penalty that goes with it.

most all the manufacturers use the same winch for 8-10k just with different gearing to make the higher load ratings. the general rule of thumb is 2x your vehicle weight and most broncos weigh in the 4-5k range so your good!

if your looking to save weight put on some synthetic line. half the weight of your winch is steel line.

do your self a favor and make sure you have a strong alternator 100 amps or more and a good battery.

that is the stuff i carry with me. usually a good idea to have an wire extension or two as well but not as essential as the other stuff.

Just reading the question, before seeing any other response or that you already got one...

My answer was going to be 8-10k is fine.

Only regret is I didn't get the synthetic line.
