Window not going down

So today for the first time I roll down my winder (driver) and it seems to catch about 1/2 down. I tried the door handle and got it down 4/5 of the way then finally got it down.
Before I rip open the whole door does anyone know exactly what they think is going on? It would save me all the disassembly.

Hard to say, best to open it up and look,
The tracks might be out of alignment.

Okay Opened it up today and found the rail next to the bed had gone sideways. I put it back in place but nothing really holds it there? Is there something that keeps it in place at the top?

I think you are referring to the rear track? Should be a screw thru the rear of the door into a bracket attached to the track. Here’s a diagram. Is it part 21508?

Yes 21508 I see where it looks like it is suppose to be attached to a piece that bolts through the door. Maybe it broke?

That top bracket probably broke off from too many years of door slamming. The tracks are cheap and easily replaced.

One of the most common old age things is broken bolting flanges/brackets on the window channels. If you're lucky it just creates more rattles. Eventually though things just stop working correctly.

Many of us have experienced split brackets long before replacements were readily available and had to have them re-welded. Which was not a bad option for most anyway.

I think my bolts were loose (a personal problem!) when the Bronco was only about five years old or so. A friend had a broken one at about the same age.

thanks. Looks like I'll have to order one. You'd think it would last longer than 48 years, but I guess everything can't be as well built as the muffler.

Hah! Yeah, you'd think. But I believe that the door slamming that Slowleak mentioned has a lot to do with door parts failing on EB's. Most cars even of that era had super easy to close mechanisms and more robust innards.
The Bronco not only has wimpy construction in there (long runs, little support, thin materials, small welds) but more often than not they require more force to close.

The older doors used to even break the welds where the window frames met the door shell. That was an annoying trait of Broncos, but one that most just put up with and re-welded them every couple of years.

While on our trip to New Mexico . The passenger side window would not roll but half way down about 50% of the time while we were there. But I'd shut the door & Not to hard the ajar would allow the window to go up or down .
We didn't open it up while there. But I did have the tools to fix it with.
& I had a roll of duck tape.
