I did some searching but haven't come up with anything, but has anyone ever made any armor for the windshield frame? Mainly on the outside edge to protect against a brush with a tree.

Are you trying to protect the frame from scratches or beef it up to withstand bending. Scratch protection is simple.
An easy cheap and attractive solution is to use abs plastic. Easily cut and formed. It can be installed with screws Velcro or double stick tape. Comes in colors if you’re into that. Easily replaceable if damaged.
You could also make it from aluminum angle.

I thought about building a new frame from steel tube, trying to mimic the design of the original frame but havent got around to it yet. I have already tweaked mine and I'm sure I will trash it in the rocks eventually.

Sort of what you're thinking about?
