My '71 is pretty clean, with the exception of some rust on the drivers side floor board. Today I took a grinder to the floor, and got rid of that nasty bubbly crap that had grown underheath my mat for all these years. In a few short hours, I was able to completely remove all the rust and coat it with some rust inhibitor as well as a few coats of new paint.

I started by grinding the largest spots of rust. Then, I laid down a massive layer of Naval Jelly. Let that sit for 20 minutes and whiped it off. I then took the grinder and went to work on the remains of the rust, still wet with the jelly. After it was all gone, I sprayed it down with a coat of Locktite Rust Preventor. When that dried, 2 coats of Krylon Rust Tough Enamel finished it off.

Its so nice to have just spent a few hours on a project that will save me hundreds of dollars and tons of heartache down the line.

No, I didnt take any pics. I thought about it - but since it was a fairly simple project, I didnt think it was a huge deal. It was just nice to fix a nagging problem during the afternoon.
