I'll be yanking the cage for completion of welding (currently tacked together). If anyone in the area is bored, feel free to stop on by. The family is going to the rodeo so I have the whole day to myself. No, really, I plan on having real work done. Not the usual scenario of staring and drinking. That will be the job of who ever stops by. "I'm on a mission from GOD"... More like the wife, as she says finish the goddamned thing already.;D

Won't be seeing too much of the site tomorrow so if interested and need better directions... call me @ 281-528-9497. May take a while for me to either answer or return voice mail as I might not hear the phone ring. But the address is...

Sorry, I can't make it down to Texas, but I'll be working on mine tomorrow. I think a lot of us work on our rigs during the weekend. We'll be with you in spirit! ;D

If you have a way to bolt the cage to some wood it will keep it from warping it when you burn it in solidly or do little sections and let it cool. When we build one we bolt it to the deck of the trailer so it doesnt warp and distort the legs.

Have fun, looking forward to some progress on it! So are you looking to run inserts on it full time or part?

744x4 good tip on securing the cage! I'll have to remember that.

I work midnights, so on my days off Sun/Mon I stay up and work on the trucks. I have been out in the shop starting at 8 or 9 PM and worked till 8 or 9 AM. Its great with no distractions. I get a little warped after 5 Am however.

I was curious about that. My cage is circumfrencial, closed in at the bottom as well. I guess a full box is best to describe it. You think I'll still have issues with warpage?

Oh, Tito. I will run the inserts permantly. I will build my own soft lowers. I don't like what I've seen on the market.

Well. Got the cage out and welded. Took a couple neighbors to assist. Think I'll leave it out for a while and start working on prepping the tub for coating and paint the cage. Don't want to have to yank this thing more than I have to.

It's 1.5" .120" wall. HREW, hence the design. I'm not sure how much I used in it. I think there is about.....120'. guessing.

So is HREW strong enough for a cage if you brace it enough? I hear a lot of people always reccomending DOM, but that stuff is pricey. I already rolled my Bronco once with no rollbar at 60mph and lived.....

Design is very important. HREW is adequate, but I think I'm on the edge of too small. Although if I were to run DOM I'd have few design changes in what I've done. There are many on here that know way more than I do and even some that think they do. Lots of opinions with little first hand experience. You know... engineers.;D

Asking your question opens this thread up for Mad to express his choice for pipe.;)

and let the bickering begin........
