Yep... It's another efi wiring issue.

I am finishing up a engine/efi install with the RJM harness, 4g alt, and the mini starter.

I currently do not have a starter solenoid in my setup. Can the purple wire from the RJM harness go somewhere else or do I have to have a starter solenoid?

The purple wire needs 12v at start but not while running.

Appreciate the help.

How do you plan to engage your starter?

From what I remember, pin 30 should get connected to the low amperage side of your starting system before your NSS. From what I remember, it logs a start attempt when a start attempt is made while the car is in gear, or your nss is failing. You can just hook it up to any 12v+start circuit, and it will be fine.

Your new starter has the solenoid mounted piggy-back style, so yes, you would need to hook the RJM purple wire to the same terminal post that has the old start wire from the key.
Is this with a stock factory chassis harness still? Or have you replaced the wiring with aftermarket?

Be aware though, the way you have it hooked up (directly from the key to the starter), you "might" have starter run-on issues.
I don't remember exactly why we have this issue, since the starter should function properly even if you don't utilize the original starter relay on the fender, but it does happen to some.
Possibly feedback from the starter itself (turning into a generator) or from other components in the Bronco's layout feeding back through stock old wiring.

Just be aware of it anyway. If it doesn't happen, great. But if it does, you may have to re-plump it all through a factory style relay.

The PO installed a painless harness and it had been running with the mini starter but without the solenoid before I swapped engines and put the efi in.

I was not having run on issues before so I was hoping I would not have any now.

So if I go back to the factory style method, I will need to run the wire that is on the mini starter now from the key to the solenoid and then a wire from the solenoid to the starter right? Which terminal on the solenoid does it go?

Or, I can try and run the purple to the starter and see if it works right?

If I bypass the stock solenoid, then a cable goes from the battery + to the starter (solenoid on the starter) right?

What computer are you using? If it's a manual trans, you want 30 grounded in neutral or depressed clutch.

I would think you should be able to run the purple wire to the starter but why not find that purple wire on the painless harness. If it's the bronco harness, that purple wire would be on pass front.

Sorry Ransil, wasn't ignoring it, it just isn't part of the issue I am trying to solve right now.

I am running the a9l with Ryan's harness. Unless I am mistaken, Ryan addressed this in his harness so I should be ok.

The main issue I am facing is tracking down where my wire coming from the key switch is. The wiring harness in this rig is good but spliced a few times so the wire color changes making it difficult to see what goes where without unlooming everything and tracing it all.

I have a new centech harness and am considering pulling this harness and puttin the centech in.

I was post to brianstrange he has posted something wrong ( multiple times in the CB.com forum) and it is also not directly related to the main issue in this post.
