I bought this truck to plow snow with. I wasn’t looking for anything special, just something to put the plow on so I didn’t destroy my 69 wagon with all the salt from the roads. After I got the bronco home and realized that it really has no floor pans on both the drivers and passenger side . I decided it would be a good idea to put some floors in since I will most likely be hauling my kids in it on snowy days (picking them up from school etc…).
I have never done this before but decided that since this is “Just a plow Bronco” I will do all the work on it myself I have no experience with body work and I don’t know how to weld, So here I go ripping into the floors with a lot of ambition and some welding help from “Elkhart Bronco “
The pictures attached are leading up to today. This has been a lot slower going than I thought it would be. I can’t believe I already have about 25 working hours in getting to this point.

Making the floor support

These next pictures are because I decided I didn’t want to spend money. That’s right I made poor bill make a floor support out of angle material found in the scrap hopper. It is a little thicker than stock but I believe it will work ok.

These are pictures of the floor supports being cut and mocked up, and we also patched up the inner rockers and kick panels I made a window so I didn’t cover up the vin plate on the driver’s side. We used self tappers to secure the new metal together we will weld it all up and then we are ready to make some floor pans.

Elkhart Bronco came over and welded in my inner rockers, inner kick panels and floor supports yesterday. every thing is looking pretty good! I am going to start bending up some metal for the floor pans today. hopefully I will have some floors back in it this week. I am going to have to replace atleast 2 of the body mounts. I couldnt save the old ones so if anyone has any they dont need pm me.

Heres some pics of everything welded up on the drivers side. I also had enough time to make the floor pan for the drivers side. It turned out pretty good for it being my first time. The only problem that I had was I put it in to test fit and couldnt get it back out. I needed to trim around the floor shifter linkage so I had to leave it in to trim.
I got it all screwed down so tomorrow its on to the passanger side.

The first pic isnt a very good one but it is my first ever attempt at welding anything so I thought I would take a picture of it. The rest of the pics are of the passanger side floor pan. This one was ALOT easier to make than the other side.

I am going to rewire this thing while i am waiting on some other parts. The truck came with an EZ wiring harness still in the box. I have it all seperated out and "roughed in" but it doesnt have any of the connectors to hook anything up.

Does any one know If there is a place that sells the connectors for the ignition and headlight switches?
It would be nice to get new ones since I have gone to all the trouble of putting the new wiring in.

I remember my first weld. Ugly! I soon was taught though. My father (the master nuclear welder) had high expectations for me. Mig? Oh no, everything had to be stick welded, including the floor pans. That was a long weekend. I don't recommend it for the novice.

This whole project has ballooned into a mini build as it usually does with me... It is taking forever! I have next week off so I hope to be done with it by the end of the week. We will see I have a long way to go!

Some Slow Progress.....

Well, I am not making very quick progress on this but I have made a few much needed upgrades for this Bronco. first of all I had to do something about the steering, the whole steering system was trashed from the tie rod/ drag link to the steering box itself. So I bought a used power steering box and robed everything else (pump tie rod etc…) off the 69.
The bronco already had a disc brake Dana 44 when I had it so I added a bower brake booster that I had laying around to help with the braking. As I said before I put an EZ wiring harness in it so the wiring is updated also, however when I did this I somehow blew up the petronics in the distributor so instead of replacing it I bought a procomp distributor to put in…. it was about $40 cheaper. I am also doing the 3g upgrade for the alternator. On top of all this I also robbed the rims and tires off the 69 along with a few other odds and ends. I put in a factory bench seat, had a dash powder coated, found an early stile dash pad that I had forgot about. Bought a half top and bulk head. The list goes on and on….. I still hope to get the plow on this year but am waiting on parts to finish up the alternator. I have attached some pics to show some progress… enjoy!

Thanks Dennis! Not done yet but getting closer. I keep having problems with the distributor or I would be out plowing with it right now.

Your right Ohio bill I just keep going and going! I am about out of money so unless I find something else laying around the house I am done “upgrading” for a while.

Mike, same one, I only had it about a week when we went wheeling. I had so much fun I decided to make it my snow plowing/wheeling rig. So I am doing all this to try and make it a little safer and more reliable to drive on the road. Not doing anything to it that will make it beautiful that way if I roll it (which I almost did that Day.) I wont cry too much.
