These work great. And cheaply priced too. U can get them on sale sometimes and or use their 20% coupons at Northern Tool and Harbor Freight.

I saw down in the questions that somebody who weighs 260 was using one. Also found that it has wheel locks....woohoo!

I have seen steps that hang over top of tires and work great, now where I saw them is a different problem :) You could always have a big front bumper!

I use an old plastic milk crate. But I'm 270 and it's at its maximum weight limit. Makes cracking sounds. I try to keep my feet towards the outside...

My engine tuner had this awesome (welded) aluminum stool. I was impressed but I haven't found it online. I thought he said he got it from Summit.

THOSE are the 2 I've seen lot of mechanic using . That one over the tire I've been wanting to try myself.
But about 40 years ago an old mechanic that I thought was old at the time He built one of those .. Ladders to go over the top of the motor. His really worked great. He kept doing improvements to it until he got it right.
In the picture the one pictured .. It's up over the work too high in my opinion . His was just about 3 inches over the grill & motors . Your hand could hang down into the motor area. & JUST UNDER YOUR CHIN .. HE HAD A SMALL Tray to hold tools. YOU COULD CROSS YOUR ARM on his & rest & think. Your feet rested on a step that had been added CUSTOM just for his hight .& I was about the same hight as he was.It had a large turn buckle to raise & lower it. Can you tell I spent a little time on his shop. His was mounted on a Creeper frame. & It rolled around good while you were up top.
.......................
For my Bronco with the diesel in it . It's tall also, So I put 2 mounted tires . & Place a 2x10 over them to walk back & fourth across. & Some times I use a HYALITE haydite TILE. 8X8X16 Concrete blocks.

I use one of these Werners. Currently they're $36 at Lowes, but sometimes they drop to $20.

I am NOT a fan of that alum folding (rolling over step ladder of death IMO) they roll to easy if you ever get a little lean on it.

I am a big fan of that Hitch mate, I recently got one as a gift. Folds up nice and flat and came with a carrying case. Even wedges onto a 35x14.50x15 Bogger. if you have smaller tires it should fit nice.

Here is my old coffee table, now my work bench/step. Or take a couple of Craigslist free pallets and cut them down size wise and step stack them. You can sort of see them in front of the red truck.
