I ran without it for a while. It would stall when running down the road and engage the clutch. Started to irritate me so I installed it and runs great now. I recommend installing it.
I installed the VSS from the start. You don't want to make a turn under braking and have it die on you. I'm of the opinion if your going through the trouble of an EFI and tranny swap, why cut corners. Do it right and have no regrets. My .02

Will it just plug and bolt up? Or do i need some other part?

Mine was just install the stock gear drive on mount it up.
And you will need a few more things if you are running a stock speedo... Cable mods and such.... Electronic dash can use the vss signal...
