So we have a freshly rebuilt 302. Petronix Flamethrower 2 coil. New distributor, cap and rotor, plugs, etc...

Issue:
Cannot rotate distributor to what we think is the correct spot because the TFI module hits the Coil!!

Description:
Currently, after setting the motor at Top Dead Center and the rotor pointing to the #1 plug, then rotating to 10 degrees, the distributor can be in 1 of 2 places.

I am going to describe the placement related to a clock.

From a previous attempt at starting the motor (removing Petronix from bracket and setting it a little out of the way), we found that rotating the distributor to around the 4 o'clock position got the truck REALLY close to starting.

SO with the coil back on its bracket, when rotating the distributor backwards from the 6 o'clock postion OR forwards from the 3 o'clock position causes the TFI module to hit the Coil before we get where we need to be!

Please help :)

Who's harness do you have that puts the coil there?
Stock (and Ryan's harness I just used) is (or allows it to be) on the fenderwell (could even reach firewall probably).

You could pull the distributor out and rotate it (along with the shaft) about 60 degrees counter-clockwise and re-install it. That would position the TFI better.

as both stated above. Easiest thing to do would be relocate the coil, but rotating the distributor is not too difficult either.

x3 Why is the coil being mounted there and not on the fenderwell?
who's harness are you using?

Make sure you are on the compression stroke. Have someone turn the crank with an wrench while your finger is in the #1 sparkplug hole you will feel the air being pushed out then its on the compression stroke. Also try putting the coil bracket on the front side of the a/c compressor.
