I think those Tuffy parts and maybe even the billet pieces need some Burnt Copper highlights. Don't you? ;D

That recess in the column bezel just screams for some Grabber Green, with the outer ridges shouting for some Burnt Copper.

Many have asked me in the past why I mounted the vents and the controls so high on the dash. Its basically to be able to mount the ipad from a gooseneck without obstructing the vents and controls. The mount does tilt and swivel.

I use the ipad for the gps as well as music in the car. The stereo headunit is in the tuffy console and I have the wires going behind the dash to power the ipad. Amps will be mounted wherever I find space.

With all that billet, now the old headlight and flasher switches look like crap

What mount are you using for your iPad?
I just picked up an iPad :)

I just picked up a crazy cheap one from ebay. Something like 5 bucks. Its one of those suction cup models. I really just wanted it for the gooseneck and the quick release. I dont trust the suction cup so I drilled three holes through the base and bolted it to the underside of the dash. Dont ever trust suction cups!!! Not even for the "just to see how it looks like" I speak from experience ;D

How are you going to charge and play music from the iPad? Are you running a separate charger cable and then using the music from a headphone jack or are you charging and playing through the apple cable? If so, what headunit did you choose? I want to charge and control my iPhone from the radio but the only headunits I've found make you relinquish control from the phone when you use the apple cable.

The good thing is that I can relinquish the phone functions on the ipad being that there are none ;D There are plenty of compatible units. I will not be using the usb powered cable but one that comes as a kit with the head unit.

Currently Im still using the super cheap JVC, but I have my eye on a few head units. I just have not made up my mind yet as to which one to use. Most probably it will be a kenwood.

As far as iphone compatibility, there are quite a few of them out there that will still allow you to make and receive calls. For the most part you have to buy the manufacturers connectivity kit. Also keep in mind of the variations with the iphone. Many that are 3Gs compatible will not accept the Iphone 4. I would just call crutchfield or the manufacturer to see if they have the firmware updates.

Yeah - its all these different variables that make me nervous. I'm leaning towards an AUX only connection for the music unless I can do it all via bluetooth.

The JVC Arsenal series specifically gives an option so that the head unit does not take over the controls. It is iphone compatible for all gens. Id say that would be the one for you if just using the iphone.

To be sure just bring your iphone/ipad to the store and try it out yourself. No surprises. For me important is only that I dont have cables hanging everywhere and I want full functionality of the ipad with all system sounds going through the speaker and not just itunes. That includes pandora and the gps. Once I narrowed it down then I will go to the store to physically test them. Simultaneously I want the iphone to connect through the bluetooth for making and receiving calls.

So I finally got the damn mirrors mounted. Its off an F-150. I was limited in terms of placement because I really did not want to go through closing holes and painting etc. Im still on the fence. I dont hate it but I dont love it either. The mirrors are electric and fully functional. The one feature I am happy about is that it folds in unlike my old mirrors.

Here the side profile with the mirror folded in:

Mirrors are a tough thing - on one hand you want them to be big so you can actually use them to their potential but on the other hand you don't want them to take away from the aesthetics of your ride which is what I think is happening here. They just don't do it for me Herman. Function over form though but I like the looks of a period correct mirror better, especially with your color/options/upgrades.
