Is it possible to install the earlier fuel tanks main and aux into say a 1973 is see the early 66-69 had a 14.5 gal tank. any problems other than the correct sending units ?
why? for a couple more gals?? im guessing most all tanks except 77 had similar take straps...dont see why you couldnt get early ones to work. i cant speak for 66-68...dont think i ever seen a fuel tank on those.
seems like a lot trouble for a 2-3 extra gals. think i would consider a bigger main tank instead
It is really the same tank. They just changed the fuel inlet positioning to make a bigger air pocket in the top of the tank. This is to allow the evaporative emissions (charcoal canister) to work more effectivly. I thought there was a post on modifying the emissions tanks to vent more air out so more fuel will fit in.
I put an newer tank into a '69 one time and the vent hole thats right beside the main filler was on the opposite of the filler hole. I had to end up crossing the vent hose over top of the main filler hose so I could hook it up to the vent tube coming down fron the filler neck. Hope that makes sense
