Imron as a Floor Paint

Well this is a mildy funny but possibly semi unfortunate occurance. I painted this weekend my 77 and the garage floor is now the gray color of the truck I tried to powerwash it off -- yea that didn't work at all! So I was thinking -- why wouldn't Imron be a great concrete paint? Its got a great reputation as a super touch paint-- its about $135 a gallon -- comes in about every sheen-- if its reduced flows very very well. With some desent prep of some TSP or some Muratic acid I bet the stuff would work killer. I believe it can be sprayed via an airless sprayer or can be rolled.

On a secondary note-- with a brand new organic mask I never felt funny or at had any issues while spraying the stuff --I used was the 3.5 low voc stuff in satin sheen-- I should have gone flat as its a little more shine than I really wanted. High gloss is very shiny!

If you would have wet down the floor that probably wouldn't have happened. I bet some lacquer thinner would probably remove it while it's still a bit fresh. Spill some lacquer thinner on the floor and cover it with a rag and let it soak for a few minutes. You could also try some muratic acid too to remove it.

Did you get a chance to redo the hood and other pieces yet? Any pictures?

I got a ton of overspray on my floor when I shot Imron 5000 around 5 years ago. A good amount of it is still there but in high traffic areas it's worn off. Granted I did say it was overspray... and I did wet down the floor beforehand - but I was in there so long that much of it dried while I was painting.

My biggest fear in coating an entire floor with it would be that any spilled fluids would turn the garage floor into a dangerously slippery mess. Interesting idea but I think I'd opt for something else due to cost, etc.

That might work, but then what do you spray it with? Imron sprays with a pretty small nozzle orifice, I think sand would clog it up quick. Shooting it out of a larger orifice would probably turn into a real mess.

Roll it or squeegee it, thats how they do epoxy floors.

kinda expensive for floor paint and probably wont hold up as long. you can get good floor expoy for less than half of what that imron cost and it will probably coat more sq feet as well.

Got mine, not Imron, it was a comparable product from Matrix, Single stage 'Factory Pack", Came with hardener and reducer for just over $100 and gave me 7 qts of sprayable product.
2 years later and still looks as good as the day it was sprayed, and have not waxed it yet.
