Did I put my rear leaf shackles in backwards?

If so, this won't be my first bone-headed move!

Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you expected! I think I've done half the stuff on my truck twice%)

BTW, where can I source new shackle hangers, or whatever they are called?

I've seen them once in a vendor catalog, but can't remember where.

You can buy them here: http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-13265-rear-spring-shackle.html

That's what I get for putting things together after my phone dies and I'm not able to check CB.com for help! Oh well...

AZ - thanks for the quick response. My Bronco is missing the shag carpet wrapped around the rear shock upper mount. Can't seem to find that in any of the vendor catalogues, I'm assuming that's an important part and I should try to source one immediately?! ;)

Hey the mistakes just make you better at working on the bronco.
The part number for the carpet is # XCAR376. From Al's carpet emporium.

It's a doohickey silencer. They were all over the Bronco when I disassembled it. Lot's of doohickeys on these 40 year old trucks.

kent wash.
Why is that backwards? Is it a strength issue? It seems it would allow more movement of the spring into the shackles. The spring shop I deal with told me to install that way also. ????

I'd like to know that too! When I put it back together I assembled it like in the picture because it seemed to make the most sense.... But it just didn't seem right but h fortunately I didn't have a photo or anything to reference.

Interesting. LMC shows them your original way

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fbr/full.aspx?Page=61

Maybe it doesn't make a difference, although when I did mine I thought they would have gone your original way also. I went back to my reference picture. I'm assuming the cross brace would be stronger facing the spring, but worried about it hitting the spring at extreme flex, but it didn't seem to interfere without really being at the limits.

I don't think the PO changed anything, but anyone else with a factory set?

A famous Bronco shop put mine on the way they are in the first picture, is that really backwards? Should the rounded part face forward or backwards?

they are not backwards.. the rest of the bronco is built backwards.. you have a long way to go to correct everything..

Hmm, so I'm not sure if we've reached a conclusion here.

Myself, using a modicum of good judgment. Redhot's spring shop. LMC catalogue. Broncobert's famous bronco shop. 4 votes for the way I have them installed in photo 1.

AZ's presumably stock setup. Bax's reassembly. Baja71s presumably stock setup. And the photo in post #17. 4 votes for the opposite way.

BB - have you had any issues with running them that way?

Any other rear suspension gurus want to weigh in??

P.S. Stock70, if what you say above is correct, I will take a small amount of solace knowing I don't have to worry about swapping the bumpers! :)
