Hey Jeff,
I got the backing plates today and WOW; they are nice. Who's glass inserts would you recommend for an original U13? Thanks!

Hey Dennis, I'm glad your happy with them! Each one is handmade so there a lot of TLC goes into a set! lol What's the best "glass inserts for original U13" is a great question! My personal pick is actually finding original inserts but I know it's darned near impossible to track down now a days! I know I'm telling something you already know. But there is hope, I had a conversation with the owner of Bronco Design about having him produce inserts that closely matches to original ones as he could make. Unfortunately I don't know where he stands on the project. So, why dont you drop him a line and I'll also do a follow up too. If enough guys show interest I'm sure he'll start making sets for us. Thanks and I'll keep you posted, Jeff

Hey Andrew, no problem at all! It's kind of my fault too because I'd thought I contacted everyone on the list. Looking back through my PM's I missed you. So no problem and sorry my misscomuniation too!
Thanks Jeff

Yes, I talked with Bronco Design at the SuperCelebration and the original inserts were not made of fiberglas, but of some other material.... and I expressed interest in a set if and when he makes them. Thanks Jeff!

The originals inserts were a type of fiberglass. The resin that Ford used was dark in color (close to a dark green) and the glass they used was a loose but long hair fiber also dark in color (not a woven mat cloth like what you find today). The Bronco insert glass was similar to what they used on the old Corvettes it was known as "black glass". The Bronco heater box was a type of glass too. All of them are some sort of fiberglass but used slightly different resins and/or glass.

The first person to reproduce a high quality original insert that fits like it should I'm in for a set or two. Most everything else seems to be a crapshoot fitting and lining up with an original U13's door jam mounting holes. I have had 4 set of original inserts of which all would fit or swapped over from anyone of my U13s with little effort to do so but that is not the case with any of the aftermarket inserts I have tried.

I know it's madding trying to find some of the key parts of these U13s and some of the '66 only parts can be even worst. Oh well... what can you do???

I'll take one. Paypal cool? I've got a U13 at the paint shop that I'm doing a frame off on. I bought a set from you a couple of years ago and can't find the damn things.
They are nice!

Hey Chris, sure this time I'll do Paypal because my wife needs get school stuff for the kids online that takes Paypal. So Paypal me at Jeff.Leslie@wowway.com the amount of $134 for the plates and shipping.

Thanks Jeff

PS You know once you receive the new plates you'll find the old ones on your shelf sitting right there. %)

Hey Jeff,
You can go ahead and start a list for the next batch. Seems that another U13 turned up here at the shop that needs them! Put me on top of the list....but I'm not in a big hurry, because I have plenty to work on.. Thanks, Dennis

Hey Dennis, from the sound of it your just like me... just can't say "no" to a U13. haha

Everyone heard the man he wants another list for the next batch of backing plates. :) So, once I get to 7 or 8 guys on the new list I'll call up my metal guy and have him start in on making the blanks for me.

Ok fordfan is on list... who else?
