Ram Assist - Pictures of Installation

Hey,

I was getting prepped to install the PSC ram assist a week ago when I realized that there are some interference issues to overcome.

I puchased a PSC clamp for the tie rod; but, it won't clear the differential cover. The only way I could make it work would be to weld a steel plate to the track bar riser in a vertical position that could be used for welding the tabs to the plate so that the cylinder is moved more to the driver side. (It would also be good to build it out so that the cylinder is more in line with the tie rod.

I can weld the tabs onto the tie rod so that the ram cylinder stays more passenger; but, If tabs are welded onto the tie rod and tabs are welded onto a vertical support (like the track bar riser), the rod ends will be on different planes. (The one at the tie rod will be vertical and the one at the riser will be horizonal.) In PSC's literature they say the rod ends should be on the same plane. (Single shear for one end is an option, I guess.)

I am attaching a few pictures that may clarify what I am running into. (They are attached as .pdfs because of the notes I added to the pics. Let me know if anyone would prefer the pictures without notes.)

If anyone has pictures of their ram install, particularly the installation of the attachment points for the rod ends, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your help.

Jeff

Not sure if this helps. you can clearly see one end, the stationary end is welded to the track bar riser.

Hi,

Thanks for the pic.

What would help most about the install on the track bar riser bracket is how far off the riser the tabs are mounted (if at all).

Sharp looking Bronco, too!

I built a box that moved the ram out and put the bolt thru and welded the back then welded the box to the riser. If I had to do it again I would make the box smaller 2" x 2".

Hey LOVNBRONCOS,

I built a box that moved the ram out and put the bolt thru and welded the back then welded the box to the riser. If I had to do it again I would make the box smaller 2" x 2".

Awesome!

That gets the rod ends lined up on the same plane and pushes the fixed end of the cylinder out to make the cylinder more aligned with the tie rod. Pretty great solution.

I'm back to welding the tabs on the tie rod... there's not really any way to use the PSC clamp.

I'll let you know which direction I go.

Thanks,

Jeff

I'm not sure why PSC says the spherical rod ends need to be in the same plane...my brother and I ran into the same thing on his Toyota and installed them 90 degrees out of phase without any issues. It is a "spherical" rod end with the ability to rotate in any direction through its range of motion, so as long as you don't exceed that range of motion, I can't see how it matters one way or the other.

That’s what I was thinking, with the Ram didn’t think the steering damper would be needed. I just needed some validation that I wasn’t going to screw something up.
Now I know where to go, Thanks
