Great news that you are OK..and yes, yet another example of how roll cages can save lives.

Wow! Glad you're ok! I have 3 points up front, but just have racing lap belts in the back. I think you just incentivized me to upgrade the back for my kiddos.

This is the first thread I've casually read on this site in at least a year. Typically I am just on here searching for something specific anymore. What a thread to read. I am so glad that you are okay after a crash like that and that a relatively simple looking cage did its job. Makes me feel better about my rig.

You bring up a valid point about seats though. Thanks for sharing.

yes they broken drivers seat indicates what direction you would have most likely been thrown out of the vehicle. I did that once and went through the back windshield of a Toyota Celica, the seat was broken back like that. Glad you were wearing your seat belt and the roll cage did its job. of course I was not wearing a seatbelt in the Celica/

I'll add my thanks for your health! The seat was the first thing I noticed. Were you initially struck from the rear? At least they are high back, probably protected your neck even in failure. Another admonition for 3 points. Laps will keep you in but the torso and head will respond to the forces applied. Face vs solid objects is a nasty outcome. Likely won't kill a person but will sure ruin your day, your looks and your teeth. Thank you for sharing your experience! Let us know how you're doing.

Glad you are ok, I have not got mine on the road yet but the impression I get is to be as defensive of a driver as you would be on a motorcycle. My cage is waiting to go in as we speak along with the 3 point belts!

So glad that you walked away from that! It really is amazing how quickly it can go bad. rydog just about nailed it, I always drive my Bronco as defensively as I can, my head tends to spin all around watching 360° because I swear someone is always out to get me, not unlike motorcycle riders. We all know that even with as many modifications we do to improve a 50 year old vehicle's safety, it still is not a airbag filled bubble like those around us on the road. Just curious, did you have a passenger? It reads as though you did not but the passenger seat as it looks as though it is broken, without the weight of a passenger, that really doesn't make sense... If that is the case, that really doesn't bode well for those seats. Once the soreness goes away, my thoughts are with you and your dealings with the insurance companies...

Wow, great to hear you made it through that. Good for you to post the story and pics too. I think the more episodes like this for all to see, the better to help awareness for everybody. My added front bars to make a 6point, and 3point belts really don't look goofy after all.

I often suggest our safety guy at work include pics of arc flash burns once in a while at safety meetings for us never to forget the possibilities, because it's so easy to become complacent, then have a life changing event.

Things can change in a split second! Glad you are ok. I've got a 6 point cage but only 4 are tied into the frame right now. Need to figure out how to tie down the front hoop.
take care and count your blessings.

Glad to see you are OK- the Bronco is just a thing...

Could you get some more pics of how the seats failed, what brand were they and were they tied into the cage? It's hard to see on my phone... With all the damage to the body, the seat could have failed with the buckling of the sheet metal...

After looking again, those appear to be Corbeau RS and they do have a failure prone point in the adjustable linkage. I run these but have my 5 point belts appropriately tied into the cage behind my shoulders.

Thanks everyone, believe me I feel lucky to be here typing and hopefully help save someone else.

The seats failed and were the brand Mountain Ram mentioned. I bought them from a vendor that is prominent on this site so i am sure they were not imitation. I do remember reading one person posting on another board that these seats failed on him, and to be honest, I think I convinced myself it was a rare bad seat just to save a few hundred bucks. How stupid, and that is part of my post. Don't cheap out. Buy the best quality, and hopefully, tested products out there.

I dont care about the Bronco. I am just happy to be alive.

Wow, glad you are ok. Looks like a roll cage and 3 point belts will be high on the list once my EB finds its way to the garage.

Many moons ago when I lived in Knoxville, I remember seeing an EB flipped over in a wreck. It had no hard top, and the tub was perfectly flat on the pavement surface. Ouch.

I build my cage's like yours and have my A pillar roll bar hit the floor board brace like yours, my B pillar hit the body brace channel the seat belts bolt to, and my C pillar hit the rear body channel close to the tail gate. I have never seen a Bronco crash with a cage bolted to these braces fail.
